About This Blog

These days, I find so much inspiration in the world around me. Often when I’m looking at pages in a magazine, listening to music, surfing photos on Flickr or Picasa or watching a YouTube video, so many bells go off in my head that I have to sit down until the dizzy spell passes. Especially if I have had more than five espresso that day (which would be most days).

Interestingly enough, for me anyway, this applies just as strongly to project management. You can read about tools and techniques, process and knowledge areas, communication tips, how to set up a document control system and how to avoid scheduling pitfalls. There are many excellent blogs and internet sites that provide a plethora of information on these and many other topics of interest to project managers. I should know: most of them are in my blog reader.

But I still think it’s more fun to learn about project management, or anything else for that matter, from our everyday lives: preparing a turkey dinner for 20 people, watching Coach Taylor take QB2 to QB1 on the TV show Friday Night Lights or listening to Johnny Cash’s rendition of Hurt. There are Project Management lessons in each of these and many other stories; I have the cross-references to PMBOK to prove it.

Don’t believe me? Stick around and find out. At the very least, you’ll have some fun, add a song or two to your iPod, pick up a nifty video to share with your friends and maybe even laugh a little. But, if I have my way, you’ll also learn something new about project management.

I promise.
